10. The Rule of Two (Part 1)

By: Gary Killingsworth

If you follow Star Wars canon, you may be familiar with “The Rule of Two”. It is a philosophy/strategy implemented by the Sith Order, (that’s the bad guys). You have a “master” and an “apprentice”. The master imparts his wisdom upon the apprentice, and the apprentice in turn learns the Dark Side of the Force with the ultimate goal of becoming the master himself - taking on his own apprentice. Think Darth Sidious (master) and Darth Vader (apprentice).

What does that have to do with guns? Well, nothing really - except that I have my own Rule of Two that applies to defensive pistols, and there is sort of a master/apprentice relationship.

9. Which Gun Will Save Your Life?

By: Tom Gresham

The self-defense firearm discussion has sparked millions of arguments, a few bar fights, and probably broken up a number of friendships. Why is that? Probably because the answer may well make the difference between life and death. Also, since the odds of actually using your gun to protect your life are incredibly low, this often degenerates into hypothetical or even philosophical chest thumping fueled by the vapid prose of gun writers and internet "experts."

8. FBI Releases Pro-2A Statement?

By: Gun Talk Staff

I’m just as confused by the title as you are currently. It isn’t often we hear a government entity speak out for the Second Amendment, but here the FBI goes. ~ KJ

Active shooter incidents are defined as any incident involving one or more individuals who are actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill those within a populated area — gang or drug-related shootings notwithstanding.

7. Cigar Box Ammo Treasures!

By: Mike Sampson

Reuniting with a high-school and college friend last month reminded me of how much I enjoy old cigar boxes and the treasures they often contain.

My friend and I did recreational shooting at the University of Missouri in the 60s, and after getting back in touch with him by phone and e-mail after too many years, we got to talking firearms. I began sharing my Gun Talk writings with him and I planned a travel stop to have dinner with him and his wife. He was well aware of my continuing interest in all things firearms.

After dinner, he told me he had a gift for me. From the trunk of his car, he produced two Dutch Masters cigar boxes. Opening the boxes I found an interesting mix of boxed ammo and lots of loose rounds. My friend told me he had gotten the cigar boxes from family and had no need for the ammo, and it was mine if I wanted.

6. TSA Reporting Higher "Catch Rates"

By: Kevin "KJ" Jarnagin

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) doubled its catch rate of firearms. This marks the highest catch rate in the 19-year history of the organization.

According to a report released by the TSA, it detected twice the number of firearms in 2020 versus 2019, at approximately 10 firearms per million in 2020 compared to five firearms per million in 2019.

5. Will I Need My "Riot" or "Unrest" Gun?

By: Mike Sampson

I guess I never had much need for a “riot” gun, but in today’s uncertain political climate there just might be. With Democrats likely leading us for the next four years, along with their promises to gut the Second Amendment and firearms ownership, and with U.S. Senate control in limbo, I indeed am worried about America’s future and freedoms. It will be interesting to see if as Joe Biden predicts, he will “unify” America, if our Constitutional rights remain intact, or if “law and order” and continued police funding will prevail. I originally am from Missouri, so he, Harris and Congress will have to “Show Me.”

4. Savage Introduces U.S.-Made Straight Pull Rifle

By: Kevin "KJ" Jarnagin

Savage Arms launches the IMPULSE exciting line of straight-pull rifles. As soon as I heard Savage was set to introduce the IMPULSE, I couldn’t wait to scurry down to the gun shop and pick one up. A straight-pull rifle is quick for follow-up shots and Savage firearms are known for top-notch quality and dependability.

The key to IMPULSE’s lightning-fast functionality is the new action, which is built around Hexlock, a robust lockup that allows for IMPULSE’s reliability, speed, safety and accuracy.

3. The Sky Is Falling! Or Is It?

By: Tom Gresham

These are troubling times.  Of that there is no doubt.  What do we make of all this, and what should we be doing now?

First off -- and this may help -- this is not unprecedented.  I was there in 1968 when Congress passed the Gun Control Act (GCA68) and in 1994 when Congress (lead by Joe Biden) passed the Clinton Gun Ban (so-called Assault Weapon Ban).  Perspective -- seeing things from a longer viewpoint -- helps me not get too excited.

I'm reminded of a phrase I hear now and then. "Is it time to panic?"  Really?  First, there is never a need to panic.  Plus, you accomplish nothing by losing your mind.

2. The 5th Rule of Firearm Safety

I’m not above telling stories on myself, especially the shocking moments. These glimpses into everyday life keep me humble and remind me and those that lend an ear. I screwed up this past weekend that prompted many moments of reflection since the incident. It also pressed the debate, should there be a fifth rule of firearm safety?

1. Can the NRA Be Saved, And Should We Care?

By: Tom Gresham

Last Sunday on Tom Gresham's Gun Talk Radio, I interviewed NRA director and music legend Ted Nugent. There's no doubt about Ted being an interesting guy to talk with, and while he was there to announce that he's selling part of his gun collection, I just had to ask him about the mess at the NRA, and more pointedly, what he was doing (as a director) to remove Wayne LaPierre (WLP) from his role as Executive Vice President (a position Wayne appears to believe should be called "emperor").
