Savage Introduces U.S.-Made Straight Pull Rifle

Savage Arms launches the IMPULSE exciting line of straight-pull rifles. As soon as I heard Savage was set to introduce the IMPULSE, I couldn’t wait to scurry down to the gun shop and pick one up. A straight-pull rifle is quick for follow-up shots and Savage firearms are known for top-notch quality and dependability. 

The key to IMPULSE’s lightning-fast functionality is the new action, which is built around Hexlock, a robust lockup that allows for IMPULSE’s reliability, speed, safety and accuracy.

Speed means nothing if you can’t hit what you’re aiming at. IMPULSE changes that. We’ve brought our tradition of accuracy into the mix to make the fastest, most accurate straight-pull rifles ever built.”

This is a big deal. A large number of straight-pull firearms like the Blaser R8 stretches the bank account, but at $1,379 MSRP, the IMPULSE Predator model I received will be a welcomed addition to quicken follow up shots if needed. One great aspect that I love with the Predator models is the AICS bottom metal. That means I can use all my AICS mags from other firearms, which will save me a little coin in the long run. 

At the heart of IMPULSE’s bolt is Hexlock. Six hardened steel bearings lock the bolt in place inside the receiver’s barrel extension. As pressure increases, Hexlock’s hold tightens, ensuring that there can be no rearward movement of the bolt. Once the round has left the barrel, the pressure subsides, and the action can safely open again with the straight pull of the bolt handle.

In addition to IMPULSE’s new features, these rifles draw upon decades of Savage innovation. Each model is equipped with AccuStock®, Accufit®, and AccuTrigger®.
