DoubleTap Ammo’s Mike McNett builds hunting ammo, precision ammo, and defensive ammo, and he brought three of DoubleTap’s defensive loads to Guns & Gear — all of them for guns people like to say aren’t enough gun.
Chris Cerino starts him on the one nobody expects: a .32 ACP load built around a 60-grain solid copper bullet at 960 feet per second, made to expand and still penetrate out of a pistol that fits in a pocket. Then the .380, an 88-grain cup-and-core designed from the ground up as a .380 bullet rather than a 9mm afterthought. And a 77-grain 9mm that isn’t +P at all — it runs below standard pressure, so it’ll function in anything chambered for 9mm, old or new, with a recoil impulse soft enough that nobody flinches.
Then all three go into gel, side by side. One of those results is going to start an argument in the comments.
