Christensen Arms MCR: Why You Want One

June 28, 2024

We’re taking a first look at the Christensen Arms MCR with Guns & Gear’s Kevin “KJ” Jarnagin and Willie Vernon of Christensen Arms. The MCR (Modern Carbon Rifle), is a firearm that stands out for its extensive use of carbon fiber, drawing on the company’s roots in the aerospace industry. The rifle is a perfect blend of modern design and traditional elements, fitting neatly between the tactical look of the MPR and the classic sporter style of the Ridgeline.

The MCR features a hybrid grip angle, quick detach (QD) attachment points, and an adjustable cheek piece. Weighing just over 6.7 pounds, the rifle is available in multiple calibers including 6.5 PRC, 6.5 Creedmoor, .308, .300 Win Mag, .300 PRC, and 7mm PRC, catering to various shooting preferences.

We’re highlighting the rifle’s technical specifications and user-friendly features. It comes with a match chamber and is compatible with Remington 700 style actions, which allows for a wide range of accessories. The MCR boasts an adjustable TriggerTech trigger, with settings ranging from 2.5 to 5.5 pounds, and a free-floated barrel for enhanced accuracy. The rifle’s stock is made using Christensen’s proprietary Flash Forged Technology (FFT), which creates a durable yet lightweight carbon fiber shell. This manufacturing method enhances the rifle's structural integrity without adding unnecessary weight.

Practical shooting demonstrations show the rifle’s accuracy and ease of use. The MCR offers minimal felt recoil, thanks to its effective muzzle brake and lightweight design. The video also emphasizes the rifle’s adaptability, with options to change magazine capacities and adjust the length of pull using spacers. The MCR is a versatile, lightweight, and highly accurate rifle suitable for both hunting and competitive shooting, priced at approximately $2400 MSRP, leaving room for additional customizations and accessories.
