Former Senator: “Women Sick Of All These Guns.” Many Women Disagree

Former Democrat US Senator Claire McCaskill from Missouri claimed last week in an interview that women are “sick of all these guns.”

McCaskill, who was ousted by voters in 2018 and replaced by pro-2A Republican Josh Hawley, has been a strong supporter of tightly restrictive gun control measures, including a reinvigoration of the Clinton-era “assault weapons ban” during her time in the Senate. While in office, McCaskill tried very hard to hide her anti-2A stands, but occasionally her true feelings slipped out.

In spite of her claims, McCaskill’s recent assertations about women’s views of guns seem to not hold water, however, as statics and recent trends in gun purchasing tells a very different story. According to the NSSF, which tracks firearms purchasing statistics based on the NICS background check data, “In 2003, only 13 percent of women identified as gun owners. Fast forward to 2020 and that number totals nearly 25 percent.”

What is fueling this increase over the past 17 years? It appears to be a combination of several factors, including a political shift from left to right over the last several years and, mostly recently, the civil unrest caused by groups like Black Lives Matter, ANTIFA, and other leftist organizations that have resorted to violence against innocent people all over the country.

Many women – and men – are purchasing guns because they are afraid for their safety when running simple errands, even in previously “safe” neighborhoods, some of which are now coming under attack by these leftist groups.

Speaking about the rioting, McCaskill said, “And, you know, the American suburban women, they see that. And they don’t like everybody having an AR-15. That’s part of the problem in America right now.” What the senator doesn’t seem to understand is that many of the women who see these images on TV are not repulsed by AR-15s but rather want to own one – or more – themselves. According to NSSF data, “a quarter of those female gun owners said self-protection was their main reason for purchasing a gun and a whopping 70 percent affirmed owning a gun was essential to their personal freedom.”

This is not the sign of a weak female population who is “sick of all these guns,” as McCaskill asserts. It is the sign of a well-armed population that understands the world they live in and wants to be prepared. ~ David
