August arrives with blistering heat, but it’s also a time for shooting sports enthusiasts to rejoice. This month, which is National Shooting Sports Month (NSSM), deserves a little more attention on our behalf. This dedicated time draws positive attention to our sports and the benefits attached. This remains a great opportunity to introduced newcomers to the sport. Last year alone, 31 percent of participants in NSSM introduced someone new to target shooting. If you have no clue on what to do this NSSM, we have you covered.
Partnerships
We are a community that helps each other. If you own a gun store, host an event or open house at your store with special promotions or beginner courses. If you aren’t lucky enough to own a store, consider partnering with your local shop and promote an event.
Hosting
Who doesn’t like a party…especially a gun party? Try hosting a day at the range for newcomers in the cooler hours of the day, provide lunch and end the day with a little shooting competition. This allows everyone to interact and learn while having fun.
Enter to Win
Possibly one of the easiest ways to participate is through the sweepstakes. Yes, you could win guns and other prizes! Pro shooters and other notable shooting sports enthusiasts are hosting daily shooting sports gearbox sweepstakes. Go HERE to win weekly and daily prizes.
Attend
You’d be surprised how much showing up helps promote our sport. Seventy-seven percent of participants in NSSM visited their local range to target shoot. All it takes is showing up to encourage others to participate. Events are being held all over the country. Find your local event HERE.
Spread the Word
We live busy lives, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get involved. Spread the word about local events through social media outlets. The National Shooting Sports Foundation established NSSM for us. Social media growth continues, so why not share what the experience has meant to you? Don’t forget the #LetsGoShooting hashtag.
However you plan to participate in NSSM, stay safe and introduce someone new to the shooting sports. ~ KJ
Kevin Jarnagin
Kevin Jarnagin (KJ) hails from Oklahoma, but quickly established Louisiana roots after joining the Gun Talk team. KJ grew up as a big game hunter, and knows his way around a bass boat. Whether it’s making his way to British Columbia for elk or training with pistols, Jarnagin always seems to find a gun in his hands and adventure on his mind.
