The 1,000 Round Challenge

Was it really only a couple of years ago when no one could find .22 rimfire ammunition on store shelves, and when you could, it cost a fortune? I remember seeing ranges selling 10 rounds of .22 LR in plastic bags.

A quick check online just showed that you can buy quality rimfire ammo for about four cents per round. Let's round it up 20 percent to a nickel a round to make this easy.

Here's my pitch. Commit to shooting 1,000 rounds of .22 rimfire over the next 30 days. It doesn't matter if you shoot it though a revolver, an autoloading pistol, or any type of rifle. Heck, it probably makes sense to mix it up.

Not required, but it might be interesting to not shoot any centerfire during this period. Why would we do that? The main reason I can think of is that it can make us better shots. When you remove recoil from the experience, most people shoot better. When ammo is cheaper, you shoot more. You can work on trigger press and follow through.

We all may be more inclined to invite someone to go with us, and they may be more inclined to go.

It might bring out a bunch of guns which have not been shot in years. You may have Dad's or Granddad's old .22. Oil it up and take it to the range.

For $50, you can shoot 1,000 rounds of .22 ammo

You know what the hard part will be? Stopping at only 1,000.

Have fun. ~ Tom
