Last night I watched the Democrat food fight of a "debate" in Las Vegas. It was the first of these debates I've watched, and Bloomberg was the draw for me. The big surprise was how badly he did. Look, he's smart, and experienced, and he is the single biggest threat to the Second Amendment in the history of this country. He came across as aloof, arrogant, condescending, and unprepared. Surprising.
He might still end up as the nominee, but even if he doesn't, he is pouring millions into state races to elect Democrats who will support his gun-ban agenda. It makes a huge difference. Dollars equate to exposure. Mailers, broadcast commercials, digital campaigns, and influencing the editorial positions of the media. He will spend more than twice as much on these races as the NRA did in 2016 to help Trump get elected.
This much I know. If we don't all volunteer to help candidates -- knocking on doors, making phone calls, putting up signs, etc., Bloomberg's hand-picked candidates will win enough seats to retain the House and capture the Senate. This is separate from the Presidential election. We have it in our power to negate his influence, but we all have to get involved at a level most of us have never considered. We tend to be a "Leave me alone and I'll leave you alone" group. We tend to not like politics. We no longer have that selfish luxury.
As part of the "20 in 2020" campaign I created (20 minutes a day) I'm suggesting that you get a buddy for your efforts. Check in with each other daily to see what you can do that day. Volunteer, as a team, to help candidates. Donate what you can -- money is vital.
Just one example is Arizona, where Sen. Martha McSally is running against Mark Kelly, a national gun-control activist. Bloomberg and other big donor gun-ban advocates are contributing to Kelly's campaign. I just went to McSally's web site (CLICK HERE) and signed up to be on her team. I also threw a few dollars into her campaign fund. I don't live in Arizona, so I can't do on-the-ground work, but on her web site you can sign up to be on her team, and in the process it asks if you can help with some activities. NOTE that these are things you can do where you live, for candidates who support gun rights.
Those actions include: attend events, door knock, intern, get a yard sign, get a bumper sticker, make calls. This is the minimum each of us should be doing. We can't sit this one out. Remember what happened in Virginia? Gun owners stayed home, and gun rights are under attack there. We all have to be registered to vote. That's task number one. Then we have to be active, every day. 20 in 2020.
Look, you couldn't be into guns and shooting without knowing how to justify, rationalize, and otherwise find ways to support buying guns and ammunition, right? Put that same thinking into this vital cause. How about, for instance, we think of the cost of a single box of 9mm practice ammunition. Probably about $10. I think we can all find ten bucks to donate. Now, do that weekly. When you think of only $10, it's not much. If a million of us kick in that amount weekly, that's ten million a week. Do that for 30 weeks leading up to the November election, and we have put $300,000,000 (THREE HUNDRED MILLION) into the election to support gun rights.
Seriously, can't we each find ten bucks a week?
Yesterday I showed my brand-new Mossberg MC2c pistol to a friend. I knew what was coming, but it was fun to watch his reaction when he picked it up and handled it. "Hey! This is a really nice pistol." He put his Glock 19 next to it and then switched back and forth, handling each one. He was totally unprepared for the Mossberg to be as good as it is, and that it is just so much more trim and ergonomic. That's not a knock on Glock, but pistols have evolved a lot in the last couple of decades.
At the introduction of the MC2c at Gunsite last fall I was able to put hundreds of rounds through mine. No malfunctions. Easy to shoot. With little effort I was hitting steel at 50 yards. Yes, yards. With a carry gun. It has a good trigger, but as my buddy and I said, it's no 1911. Then again, what is, right? Would I carry this pistol? Absolutely!
I'll admit I was surprised. We all know Mossberg as a shotgun company, but their entry into carry guns with the MC1sc (single stack) and now the MC2c shows they just know how to make good guns. I love this kind of surprise.
