In the culture war raging in America, the hot LZ of gun rights continues to expose new weapons being trotted out in their field trial periods. Witness New Jersey's latest assault on the legal and highly-regulated firearms industry, where Garden State politicians declared this week their plan to "Name and Shame" gun makers whose firearms are used in crimes. The absurdity of this immediately popped onto social media as thousands pointed to the obvious comparison of calling out Ford and Chevy when their cars are used in drunk driving accidents. The difference, of course, is that firearms are much more heavily regulated than are cars.
Taken on its face, this sophomoric "Shame, Shame, We Know Your Name" campaign is just silly. When we back off,
though, it clearly represents the latest in a widespread (coordinated?) marginalization march where gun owners and gun makers are made to be "The Other." The most obvious manifestation of this is the daily assaults by the gun ban lobby and the media (redundant, I know) on the NRA. Whether treating gun owners with an in-your-face screaming march or a wave of the hand dismissing armed self-defense as a quaint notion, the goal couldn't be more clear.
The end goal is to restrict firearms ownership to the government -- to place all power in the state. That's the crux of the phony "collective right" interpretation of the Second Amendment which was destroyed by the Heller decision, but which continues to pop up (See Hawaii's resolution last week asking that SCOTUS return to this mythical viewpoint, or better yet, just repeal the Second Amendment.) Throughout human history, it has been necessary to make a targeted group "The Other" to restrict them, put them into camps (whether here in the U.S. or other countries), or even to kill them.
The road map of the gun-ban movement clearly lays out the path. First, convince the public that gun owners are dangerous, odd, and "not like us." Repeat the phrase that gun owners and gun makers don't care that children are killed with guns. Encourage parents to ask other parents if there are guns in their homes, and to not allow their children to play in homes where there are guns. Boycott stores which don't ban the lawful carrying of guns. Celebrate companies which call for restrictions on basic human rights. Get the "popular kids" (movie stars, celebrities, late-night talk show hosts) on board with the "put them into internment camps" crowd. Inculcate into the minds of the public that gun owners are weird, cultists, and their objections clearly should be ignored if we are to have a safer and better world.
It is, in fact, the front line of the culture war. As I said on Gun Talk Radio last Sunday, if we lose our guns, we lose the country.
And that, my friends, is the blazing inferno the banners cannot see. The end game of their efforts is not a country without guns. It is a country at war. A shooting war within itself. There are hundreds of thousands, and maybe millions, who understand history and know that the genocides in the last century could not have happened to an armed citizenry. With that in mind, these people will not be disarmed. Period.
I'm going to encourage you to do something that may seem counter-intuitive and even counterproductive. Join the anti-gun groups. It's easy to join Moms Demand Action, Everytown For Gun Safety, and others. It costs nothing. Why would you do that? Intel. You will start getting their emails. Daily. You will see what they are saying. You will see where they are meeting. You will know their plans for pushing bills through your state legislature.
And you will begin to understand just how big, effective, and smart they are. It will be an eye-opener.
This is not the gun control movement of 10 years ago. It's the gun-ban juggernaut fueled with Soros and Bloomberg millions.
To sit on our butts and expect any gun right group to do this for us is foolish and it is doomed to failure. We cannot be fighting the last war.
Get informed. Get involved. Or prepare to get on your knees. ~ Tom
