Digital Outdoors - Keeping up with Today's Changing Outdoor Media

Companies scramble to keep up with the changing landscape of today’s outdoor media. Smart phones take over the marketplace and our everyday lives, but where is our break? As outdoorsmen and women, how do we manage the change?

Look around. Social media outlets wreak havoc on our attention. I sat in my tree stand, shut out from the world. With only a few, meager bars of service, I decided to get stuck in the proverbial black hole of social outlets, eliminating the reason I had escaped to the woods. I knew better, but I just had to check how everyone else out hunting was doing.

You know the rest of the story. We’ve all had one similar. Buck comes in. I do my best attempt to salvage the delayed response. Buck escapes unscathed.

Instead of adjusting our lives and taking drastic steps to move away from advancements, how about accepting the change?

Good people that are far smarter than me seek out ways to make our outdoors experience more enjoyable. Take the app Powderhook for example. This handy app is for everyone looking for information about hunting spots, gear and assistance. Powderhook pros help young and new hunters and anglers succeed in the outdoors. They’ve created a way to connect likeminded individuals to grow our sport by accepting the changing landscape.

GoWild is another example of companies melding our love for the outdoors and social interaction. A bonded, outdoor

community eliminates the negativity often found in other social platforms. Compete with friends, find recipes or win gear. The outdoor-dedicated app also allows users the ability to find great content that helps hunters and anglers improve their odds.

Are we going to check our statuses in the field…probably. But, why not do it on a platform that aids our efforts to connect with folks just like us? It’s impossible to escape. So embrace it with folks who trek the same hunting ground and fish the same water. ~ KJ
