Vortex Optics has announced the Vortex Relay™ Network, a new closed connectivity platform designed to seamlessly link long-range shooting devices into a single, unified data ecosystem. The system is intended to simplify how shooters collect, share, and act on ballistic information in the field by allowing compatible devices to communicate automatically and reliably.
Rather than functioning as a standalone product, Relay™ serves as a connective backbone, recognizing and remembering every Relay-enabled device within a shooter’s equipment setup. Once paired, the system maintains a persistent connection, eliminating repeated setup steps and reducing the need to manually transfer data between devices.
At its core, the Vortex Relay™ Network allows critical range, weather, and ballistic data to flow instantly between compatible tools. This can include rangefinders, weather meters, ballistic solvers, and future Relay-enabled devices, ensuring that shooters are working from a single, consistent data set rather than juggling inputs across multiple platforms.
The system is designed to operate as a closed network, prioritizing reliability and stability over open Bluetooth pairing. According to Vortex, this approach ensures consistent device recognition and uninterrupted data sharing, even in time-sensitive shooting scenarios.
While the Relay™ Network is compatible with the GeoBallistics® ballistic solver, use of a mobile app is not required for core functionality. Relay-enabled devices are capable of operating independently, allowing shooters to tailor their setup based on preference, environment, or mission requirements.
For those who choose to use it, the GeoBallistics® app can provide additional configuration tools, quick edits, and expanded data visualization without being a mandatory component of the system.
For long-range shooters and hunters, consistency and efficiency are often the difference between a first-round hit and a missed opportunity. By allowing multiple devices to share real-time environmental and ballistic data, the Relay™ Network is designed to reduce mental workload, streamline decision-making, and minimize the risk of mismatched inputs.
Vortex positions the Relay™ Network as a forward-looking foundation, one that will expand as more Relay-enabled devices are introduced, offering shooters a scalable system that can grow alongside their skill level and equipment needs.
The Vortex Relay™ Network is being rolled out across select current and upcoming Vortex products, with additional Relay-enabled tools expected to follow. As a platform rather than a single SKU, availability depends on the specific devices integrated into the Relay ecosystem.
