This IS What it's About

This is what last November's election was about for many of us. The U.S. Supreme Court just declined to hear a case challenging the laws and procedures which prohibit many in California from being able to carry a gun for protection. Justice Thomas and newly-appointed justice Gorsuch dissented strongly.

Read about it here.

This decision, Justice Thomas wrote, “reflects a distressing trend: the treatment of the Second Amendment as a disfavored right.”

Thomas continued: “For those of us who work in marbled halls, guarded constantly by a vigilant and dedicated police force, the guarantees of the Second Amendment might seem antiquated and superfluous. But the framers made a clear choice: They reserved to all Americans the right to bear arms for self-defense. I do not think we should stand by idly while a state denies its citizens that right, particularly when their very lives may depend on it.”

The case, Peruta v. California, challenged a law requiring that a person show "good cause" before being issued a carry permit, and the law specifically says that being concerned for your safety is not good cause.

It's a bitterly disappointing loss. It also demonstrates the importance of elections. This 7-4 decision comes from a court packed with Obama selections. Throughout the last election, I kept saying it was only about the Supreme Court. Getting Justice Gorsuch on the bench was good. If Trump can put two more of his selections on the bench, we will be in a much better position to protect the Second Amendment.

What's it all mean? Stay true. Ignore the phony media (you did see CNN retract one of its Russia stories, right, and a CNN producer was caught saying there's really nothing to all the Trump-Russia stuff other than ratings, right?). We have more elections coming. I wish it  were not true, but the simple fact is that more Democrats in Congress is bad for gun rights.
