When Smith & Wesson first introduced the M&P FPC in 9mm, shooters loved its innovative folding design and practical features. Now, the company has doubled down on that success with a .22 LR version — and it might be the most enjoyable plinker you can pack.

The new M&P FPC .22 takes everything shooters appreciated about the 9mm version and scales it down for affordable fun and lightweight versatility. The polymer-frame carbine folds neatly to the side, not upward, meaning your optic stays perfectly mounted and zeroed. It’s an incredibly smooth folding mechanism — easy to deploy and stow without feeling bulky or awkward. The compact footprint makes it ideal for backpacking, range trips, or tossing behind a truck seat.

Despite its small size, this carbine is loaded with features. The FPC .22 includes a full-length Picatinny rail for optics, M-LOK handguards for accessories, and a threaded barrel ready for your favorite rimfire suppressor or muzzle device. It ships with a crisp flat-face trigger and three 20-round magazines — two of which store directly in the stock. With a quick button press, a spare mag pops free for lightning-fast reloads. That’s 60 rounds on the gun, ready to go — an especially fun feature for extended plinking sessions.

At the range, the M&P FPC .22 quickly proved it’s more than just a novelty. Shooting offhand at 75 yards, the carbine consistently produced tight groups — impressive for a lightweight folding .22. Even more impressive, it cycled through a wide assortment of mixed ammunition without issue. Old rimfire rounds, fresh bulk packs, high-velocity and subsonic loads — the FPC handled them all with surprising consistency. Accuracy and reliability are both standouts here.

Reloading is quick and intuitive thanks to the smart stock storage system, and with interchangeable backstraps, shooters of all sizes can find a comfortable fit. As one tester noted, “I wish this had been around when my kids were younger — it would have been a perfect home-defense or training carbine.”

The Smith & Wesson M&P FPC .22 is a lightweight, accurate, and dependable folding rifle that’s just plain fun to shoot. It’s everything you’d want in a rimfire carbine — compact, capable, and surprisingly practical.
