"Nobody Wants To Take Away Your Guns" -- BULL!

Punch 'em in the face!

Last week several gun rights groups filed a federal lawsuit to stop the new (not in effect, yet) California law banning the ownership of standard capacity magazines. The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF), Calguns Foundation, Firearms Policy Coalition, Firearms Policy Foundation, and six individuals jumped on what clearly is confiscation scheme. If you can't own it, you have to get rid of it, right? (Listen to SAF's Alan Gottlieb talk with Tom about it here: https://youtu.be/29i4odxGJu8?t=1m2s)

While there have been bans on the SALE of magazines, this measure bans the ownership. Note that there is no provision in the law for the state to pay for the millions of magazines which would be banned. In legal terms, that's known as an illegal taking, which the plaintiffs are making clear.

A magazine is a gun part. An essential part of most semi-automatic pistols and rifles. Ten rounds is just a number, and as we saw in New York, where they decided that the "magic number" should be seven, it can be anything the gun banners want -- including zero.

So, when you hear a gun-ban apologist say that no one wants to take your guns away, remind him or her that a ban on ownership is, in fact, confiscation.
