"No One Needs..."

Last Sunday on GTR I had a representative of Brady (formerly The Brady Campaign, and before that it was called Handgun Control, Inc.). It was a fresh lesson in the manipulation techniques the gun-ban lobby uses, and we all need to know how to respond.

Trying to sound reasonable while calling for a ban on semi-auto rifles and restricting the number of rounds in a magazine, their rep used the "No one needs 30 rounds to hunt deer" argument. Let's examine what's really going on here.

It's just so easy to take the bait to try to justify why you might need more than 10 rounds (their current "acceptable" number) rounds. It's tempting to retort that the Second Amendment isn't about hunting. That's what their position is designed to do -- get you on the defensive.

Now, to be fair, when Jack Ballard, another guest on the show (a Montana Democrat running for the U.S. Senate), used the "no one needs" more than 10 rounds, and added "If you can't get it done with 10 rounds, you aren't going to get it done," I did respond. I said, "So if my daughter or your daughter needs 11 rounds to fend off a home invasion, she should just die?"

He didn't care for that. Here's hoping the voters in Montana are smart enough to recognize his "I'm a hunter and I support gun rights" chant is bull, and that he supports banning guns and standard capacity magazines.

When they say "no one needs" they are baiting you to justify why you need whatever it is they are wanting to ban. Don't do it. Make them justify why they want to ban hundreds of millions of guns and magazines from law-abiding citizens in the HOPE that it will restrict bad guys.

Here's a clue for gun banners. Guns and magazines last 150 years. There probably are more than 100 million semi-auto firearms (and make no mistake -- they want to ban all semi-auto pistols, shotguns, and rifles) in America. There probably are a billion magazines that hold more than 10 rounds.

Will you go house-to-house and kick in doors, looking for guns and magazines?

Exactly how do you plan to enforce such Draconian laws? ~ Tom
